Leather face and his family of cannibals don’t have a back-story in the film. There was a slaughter house near their home but the town in abandoned except for them and passer-byes. This shows that they are victims of industrial capitalism as technology advances whatever is left is there to try to survive in their times. As they are secluded from the world, they survive on the travelers as their food source. Many know Leather face’s iconic weapon as the chainsaw hinting the film name. Leather face doesn’t show his face because maybe he is ugly or doesn’t have one, but the skin of his victims give him a sense of identity that sets him apart from other slashers. Although he is considered the main antagonist he is like a frightened child, who takes orders from his family, which he is more scared of. With lack of communication we can guess leather face can be mentally retarded and never learned to speak, considering his environment to be secluded and his family not being psychological stable.

This movie has many serial killers but one is better know as leather face. Overall the audience sees the monsters in this movie as grisly, sick, and perverse; they redefined horror with the raw, unshakable actions. The film and its actions made churches attack it and stunned audiences worldwide with a new level terror. What hooked the audience from the beginning that claimed it being based on a true story, which added more fear to the murders and torture. Also chainsaw-wielding Leatherface remains one of the most disturbing characters in horror.
